About the CTNP

This is basically just a simple page to explain to you newcomers exactly what the Chrono Trigger Novel Project Establishment is all about.  I hope that this information will be both informative and inspiring for you as we work to see this novel (and possible future rpg novels) to publication.

The Mission:

The CTNP is in existence for one main goal: To work towards the future publication and distribution of the Chrono Trigger novel written by Wayne (novelist@chronotrigger.info).  In reaching this goal, the project has been established as a comprehensive effort to rally support, spread information, publish a functional website for the cause, and, of course, create, edit, and gain reviews about this novel from other fans.

The Actions:

With such a massive effort, there is a lot of action involved.  Simply put: one person really can't do it alone.  While I've tried and succeeded in doing quite a bit, I have found that it is now increasingly necessary to rely on the skills and willful efforts of some of the most trustworthy, reliable, and elite supporters of this project.

By leading all Chrono Trigger fans to this site from other sites and different means, (i.e. search engines, guest books, message boards, banners), we can eventually spread the word over a global spectrum.  In the future, this spectrum could grow so large and the voice so loud that SquareSoft would have no choice but to listen to what the fans are wanting in return: the allowance of a Chrono Trigger novel...This Chrono Trigger novel.

It doesn't stop there, of course.  Publicity must go from a broad level to local levels, as well.  So...the support effort will continue to spread in the form of fliers left in libraries or, at the greatest effort, at a booth in conventions such as E3.  This will require that individuals take on the effort to spread the word around in this way in their own local regions.  As the project gains support and publicity on a global scope, I do not foresee this as being a major difficulty.

The Supporters:

The supporters mean everything to this project.  Without them, the word of this novel could not spread so quickly and I would not realize how much people would enjoy a novel of this type.  Avid supporters allow this project to expand through websites and many other efforts that are listed above.  Through their support and encouragement, I keep going...and I keep going in such a way so that this novel and project will turn out in the very best way that it can.

Past supporters can tell you this: That I do not claim to take ownership of the story of Chrono Trigger.  I have always realized that this story is NOT my own, but that of every fan, and legally belongs to the company who owns the license.  Out of this respect, I am constantly seeking the opinions, insights, and comments from supporters and visitors of the site.  Ideas are regarded as very important, and many outside ideas have been used to inspire scenes in the novel.  In continuation of this respect, I vow to never add or remove anything to the novel that will take away from its original splendor or storyline.

The Corporate Field:

SquareSoft is a company with many very well-instated policies.  It makes perfect sense that they would create a policy to automatically shut down any attempts at publications that include stories that their writers wrote and created.  As supporters and activists in this project, it is very important to understand the grounds by which SquareSoft makes these policies.  Everyday, individuals are seeking to write comics, short stories, poems, and books that use copyrighted names belonging to the company.  The policy makes sense because it is the easiest and fastest way to deal with these issues.

The company, however, has not prepared itself to deal with a project or request of publication that is very serious.  Players of RPG's always want something more, whether that be a good sequel or something totally different like a novel or a movie.  In many cases, they want them all, so why not benefit everyone and provide them?  Obviously, as we have seen with the creation of a Final Fantasy movie, we know that an exception can be made somewhere down the line by an individual who has a mind open enough to understand this and to act upon it.

In light of this, Square USA is completely powerless to help.  Though they are the quickest and easiest outlet to a project born and created in the USA, the true origins of the story and its game go to the country of Japan, where the main headquarters of SquareSoft reside.  It is there that this novel will have to be presented, to an individual who will listen and see the desire presented through the fans whom will even give up their own time for the cause of the Chrono Trigger novel.

There, the corporation of SquareSoft must realize that the acceptance of this novel is only beneficial to everyone.

The Future:

It is certainly the ultimate hope of this project that SquareSoft will soften their hearts, open their minds, and listen to what we RPG lovers have to say...A gaming novel industry is a successful industry!  With so many RPG's out there with rich storylines, (such as the one in Chrono Trigger), the scope of this single novel project could very easily broaden and pioneer the field of gaming novels to a new level.  The sure success of this CT novel would undoubtedly shine a bright light at the end of the tunnel for all great RPG's, including many that have been produced by Square themselves, meaning only good things for the company to come from this effort.

SquareSoft must be brought to the enlightenment that this novel is a very serious effort and not just a comic, fanfic, or reminiscence of a great gaming story.  It is the full conversion of a very rich RPG story into a full-length novel that everyone (not just the gaming community) can enjoy.  To broaden the scope of RPG stories into the literary world increases the richness of the stories, allows the stories to be shared and compared with other published greats, makes parents happy by encouraging their children to read as a supplement to gaming, and opens and links both industries into a new, lucrative, and successful one.
